AGUSAN DEL SUR, Philippines — The National Capital Region (NCR) defended its overall championship title in the 2026 Palarong Pambansa, securing its 19th consecutive crown after the conclusion of competitions on May 30.
NCR topped the medal standings with 91 gold, 71 silver, and 71 bronze medals for a total of 233 medals.
The region's strong performance was fueled by victories in swimming, athletics, and gymnastics. The Metro Stars breached the 90-gold mark for the third straight edition after bagging 98 in Cebu City in 2024 and 117 in Ilocos Norte in 2025.
Swimmer Patricia Mae Santor emerged as the most bemedalled athlete after winning seven gold medals in all her seven events in the secondary girls' division.
Other notable contributors for NCR included Jamesray Ajido (secondary boys’ swimming) with five gold medals, while Tchelzy Mei Maayo (secondary girls’ artistic gymnastics), Ashton Clyde Jose (secondary boys’ swimming), Antonette Amante (secondary girls’ aerobic gymnastics), Sheena Jillianne Ty (secondary girls’ rhythmic gymnastics), Deen Gungob (elementary boys’ artistic gymnastics), and Franceine Jhobie Rosario (secondary girls’ athletics) each collected four gold medals.
Following this year's edition in Agusan del Sur, the Palarong Pambansa will return to Metro Manila in 2027, with Quezon City set to host the national games.
